Green Coffee Buyer and Quality Control Manager

Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters is looking for a Green Coffee Buyer and Quality Control Manager.

Responsibilities

Green Coffee Buyer

  • Purchase and source green coffee. Independent work, reports to ownership.
  • Analyze data & estimate green coffee volume:
    • Analyze green coffee consumption for all Snowy Owl products
    • Document volume projections monthly, quarterly, and annually to help contract necessary green coffee volume
  • Manage sourcing program:
    • Work closely with ownership to foster current supplier relationships and establish additional long-term partnerships
    • Responsible for green coffee grading, sample roasting, sensory evaluation, and providing feedback to suppliers
    • Review, negotiate, and communicate clearly our terms (needs, availability, position) for green coffee contracts
    • Use volume projections to strategize minimum storage fees & importers financing terms
    • Source coffees that uphold our quality standards and company mission
    • Provide all appropriate sourcing information (photos, coffee descriptions, etc.) for company-wide coffee launches including online channel, café retails, and wholesale program
    • Maintain internal coffee launch planner with coordination from various area
  • Inventory Management:
    • Integrate all stocks of inventory via Cropster Software
    • Schedule delivery orders when necessary
    • Work closely with the production team to project estimated coffee launches

Quality Control Manager

  • Perform quality analysis & training standards. Requires coordination from multiple departments
  • QC Sourcing:
    • Ongoing analysis of the sampling process including: offer samples, pre-shipment samples, arrival samples, and evaluation samples for internal use
    • Schedule & organize cupping sessions
  • QC Production:
    • Schedule and coordinate bi-weekly production cuppings with the production manager
    • Work closely with the production manager and head roaster to establish a desired roast profile for production roasting
    • Analyze roast data and communicate necessary changes
    • Update SSOP documents in coordination with the production manager, and wholesale manager when necessary
  • QC Café:
    • Dial in coffees and update brew ratios for appropriate brew methods
    • Perform random regular QC checks on drinks prepared by café staff
    • Help to facilitate the continued education of management and staff in the areas of basic coffee knowledge and more importantly knowledge of current Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters offerings.
    • Aid Café Operations Manager in the barista training program to include manual brewing and espresso practices as laid out in the current Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters training manual.
    • Liaison for any equipment maintenance needs
  • QC External:
    • Collaborate with NOBL beverages, Snapchill coffee, Nuzee, and ongoing third parties to craft coffee recipes & maintain proper brewing standards
    • Assist our growing wholesale department with education and training for new and current coffee programs with the goal of standardizing our wholesale partnership training program

  • Prior knowledge of Ikawa sample roaster and Loring roaster
  • Education
  • Q-Grader (a plus)
  • Prior formal coffee education (a plus)
